At Shalaranga, our artists perform and engage with children through songs, storytelling, drawing, games, and puppetry. These activities not only educate children about current events and societal issues but also immerse them in making learning an experiential journey. Our artists explore and demonstrate effective ways to harness emotions, imagination, and creativity in communicating the curriculum. This project enhances the children’s learning experience.
This is an important project by Nirdigantha. Ten theatre artists who are trained in children’s theatre, are involved in this project for a year. These artists are conducting school theatre experiments in 200 schools across the state to conduct an effective study on the relationship between education and theatre.
What if theatre is integrated with the daily activities of a school?
Such an integration will surely be another step in exploring the potential of theatre in education. Under Nirdigantha’s ‘School Theatre Development Project’ five theatre artists with experience in children’s camps have been selected and given 15 days of intense residential training. They have been appointed as theatre teachers in these schools for a duration of six months and will engage children in activities such as drama, games, music, drawing and will also organize a ‘Dasara’ camp. Here are glimpses of the training provided to these theatre teachers at Niridigantha.
This project aims to understand how today’s young directors perceive the world, understand their methods of expressing this perception and support their dreams. Nirdigantha identified and awarded fellowships to five young directors who think and work in ambitiously diverse ways to shape new theatre. These new plays were performed at, ‘Nirdigantha Theatre Festivals at Mangaluru and Chikmagalur.
